Tencil Talks: Jade Sweeney

Jade Sweeney is a Client Executive at Kantar Worldpanel.

Kantar Worldpanel is the global expert in shoppers’ behaviour. Through continuous monitoring, advanced analytics and tailored solutions, Kantar Worldpanel inspires successful decisions by brand owners, retailers, market analysts, and government organisations globally.

Today we caught up with her on her career success to date.

Q. How did your time at University prepare you for your current role?

JS: Not particularly well – I had to arrange my own internships/work experience and conduct my own research on my chosen career path as the university only pushed Law/Politics career as I studied a degree within this field.

That being said, I did take up a part time job as a Brand Ambassador (after someone reached out to me via email) which was a great way to make money but also add something relevant to my CV. This involved representing different companies on-campus and promoting their relevant graduate schemes

Q. Do you think that there are enough materials out there to educate a young adult on your role?

JS: No, unless you were to study Consumer Behaviour/Marketing. I would not have known that my current industry (Insights) existed until I started my role.

Q. What advice would you offer a young adult looking to work at Kantar?

JS: It’s not about having experience in market research and consumer behaviour, however about particular skills i.e. if you enjoy networking, presenting, and are interested in how people (particularly shoppers and consumers behave). You do not necessarily need to have studied a particular degree to be qualified for the job.

Q. What is the best thing about your job?

JS: Learning something new every day and being able to share our expertise and knowledge with a variety of large, FMCG clients.

Q. What is your proudest professional accomplishment so far?

JS: Being responsible for a decision my client made based on the data which I provided them with and then seeing this be used to help create NPD (new products)

Q. What is your favourite lunchtime spot and why?

JS: Hanging around the pool table on a Friday with fish and chips, catching up with my colleagues after a long week!

Finally, we would like to thank Jade for taking the time out of her busy schedule to talk with us today, if you would like to hear more on opportunities that Tencil has to offer, then feel free to reach out to Joel.Williams@tencil.co.uk
